Virbac C.E.T. VeggieDent FR3SH: Plant-Based Dental Chew Data

Last checked: By the DentalDogTreats editorial team Methodology

Short answer

VeggieDent FR3SH is a plant-based chew with no animal-derived ingredients, carrying a VOHC plaque and tartar claim since 2020. It suits dogs that must avoid chicken, beef or other animal proteins; check the pouch for the full plant-ingredient list. It is gluten-free but not grain-free, and the Medium size covers a wide 22 to 66 lb band.

Checking this chew

This page leans on the Virbac US product page for sizes, weights, calories, feeding and diet claims. The full ingredient list is printed on the pouch; we did not find it on a page we could read, so we do not reproduce it. The seal is read from the VOHC accepted products list. We compare published data, checked on October 13, 2026; we do not test chews, and Amazon content is not used.

Ingredients and what the label does not say

Virbac describes the chew as plant-based with no animal-derived ingredients, gluten-free, and says it contains grain proteins and a prebiotic. The full ingredient list was not published on the manufacturer page we checked (2026-10-13); read the pouch before feeding a dog with a food allergy. Because the manufacturer says it “contains grain proteins”, it does not fit a grain-free feeding plan, and we make no enzyme claim for this line.

Calories against the treat budget

WSAVA's treat guidance is under 10% of daily calories (WSAVA, Feeding treats to your dog). To get the percentage, the table divides the chew's kcal by WSAVA's budget for the example weight. Small dogs fare worst: a Small chew is 120% of the budget for an 18 lb dog. Medium drops under 100% only from about 44 lb. Treat the percentage as a rough guide, because budgets assume a healthy adult at ideal weight, and ask your veterinarian for your dog's exact target.

VOHC status

The council lists VeggieDent FR3SH (all sizes) for plaque and tartar, seal year 2020, as it does the Zen and Flex chews. Check the pack for the exact name; the council also lists a C.E.T. Aquadent FR3SH water additive with its own row. The full table is on the VOHC accepted list.

Safety and feeding notes

Feed one chew daily in the size for the dog's weight. The manufacturer says puppies may have it once they eat solid food with ease, and asks for supervision. A dog with a known plant-ingredient sensitivity should have its owner read the full ingredient list on the pouch first. We have not reviewed recall records.

Who should skip VeggieDent FR3SH

Frequently asked questions

Do CET enzymatic chews work?

VeggieDent FR3SH holds a VOHC plaque and tartar claim (seal year 2020), which is the evidence we cite. Its ingredient list shows no enzymes, and we publish no effectiveness figures of our own.

Did Virbac recall any dental chews?

This page does not review recall records. Check the FDA's pet food recall notices or ask Virbac directly, and ask your veterinarian if you have a specific concern.

Is VeggieDent grain-free?

No. Virbac describes it as gluten-free but containing grain proteins, so it does not suit a grain-free plan.

Can puppies have VeggieDent FR3SH?

Virbac says puppies may have it once they eat solid food with ease, with supervision. Ask your veterinarian about the right start for your puppy.
